Sebastes melanostictus

Body color: red or dark, with distinct spots above lateral line, fins reddish, w/ distinct spots, all fins edged with black; oral, gill cavities, pectoral-fin base under operculum dark, gill rakers and 1st dorsal spine longer than in S. aleutianus; anal fin margin slightly rounded.

Peritoneum color: light w/ dark spots.     Shape between eyes: concave.

Counts: suborbital spines 2-10; head spines 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 .

Occurence: Bering Sea to California; western Pacific

Depth: 250-875 meters     Size: 97 cm     Species code: 30052
