Body color brownish, light spots laterally each with cirri in the center , light spots ventrally without cirri in center; light spots with dark centers arranged in rows along anal rays; spots and bars on dorsal and caudal fins; bones and flesh bluish; preopercle long and slender with 2-5 small hooked spines on outer edge; lachrymal spine slightly forked, extending somewhat over upper lip; lateral line scales as large raised plates
