Gymnocanthus galeatus
Distinctive dark saddles dorsally on young becoming obscure in very large adults; interorbital narrow, <11% of head length (interorbital width about half distance of snout length); plates on head small yet prominent and extensive, extending from nasal spine to about 2nd dorsal spine, plates between eyes extending onto orbit rims; two rows with one knob each on head; cleithral spine not evident; anal fin rays 18-20 (rarely 17).
