Dorsally brown reticulation without distinct saddles; interorbital narrow <10% of head length (interorbital width about half snout length); plates on head from completely absent to numerous extending from posterior orbit ending before 1st dorsal spine, plates rarely extend interorbitally and never extend onto orbit rims; nape area smooth with no obvious rows of knobs; cleithral spine emergent short and sharp; anal fin rays 15-18
