Body color blotchy red; peritoneum dark; gill and oral cavities, stomach and intestines pale; pectoral fin moderately notched, lower rays free only at tips; pelvic disk moderate size; small whiskerlike flaps along pores of head; tips of anterior dorsal rays protrude from connective membrane; gill opening entirely above pectoral fin; pectoral rays 36-40; interorbital papilla present; iris silver-gray.
